SDR – Signal Distribution Rack

The SDR is a modular, scalable and flexible solution for distributing test and power signals within different types of tester systems such as ICT or HIL testers. The system is implemented within a 19” rack and its basic version only comprises 3 HU. For the additional installation of relay cards for signal processing and signal distribution the rack can be extended to 6 HU.

The SDR comprises different types of integrated relays cards for the switching of high voltages or currents, several switch and multiplexer cards for signal distribution as well as a card providing a matrix of load resistors and a matrix card for versatile signal and power distribution.

All these different types of relay cards are controlled via a central bus that can be a HNI bus (High Noise Immunity), a CAN bus or FPGA technology-based (for HIL-Systems or time-critical applications).

The SDR can comprise the following modules for signal distribution:

  • High Voltage Switch HVS0801
Eurocard-sized switching card containing 8 relays for switching high voltages up to 1000 V
  • Load Resistor Network LRN1600
Eurocard-sized card containing a network of 16 load resistors each having a maximum power consumption of 3W
  • Power Relay Switch PRS0805
Eurocard-sized relay card containing 8 integrated SPST relays for high power switching
  • Power Distribution Matrix PDM0110
Eurocard-sized card containing a matrix for signal and power distribution to all devices under test, polarity of the signals can be direct or inverted.
Each power or signal circuit can be controlled and switched separately so that devices under test can be handled independently of each other.
It is also possible to connect a DMM for measuring currents and voltages. There is an additional channel for connecting a second power supply or for providing an output of the integrated power supply.
The matrix contains two SPDT relays as well as one DPDT-GP signal relay.
  • Signal Relay Switch SRS1601
Eurocard-sized card for signal switching with 16 integrated DPDT relays

Additional modular cards are still under development. It is also possible to develop customized and exactly tailored cards and solutions for integrating them into the SDR.

The SDR cannot only be implemented within our customized projects but it can also be used as a stand-alone system.

Advantages

  • Relays for switching high voltages up to 1000V
  • DPDT signal relays for switching test signals
  • Switching and multiplexer cards
  • integrated SPST relays for power switching
  • integrated resistor matrix containing 16 load resistors each having a maximum power consumption of 3W
  • modular and flexible solution for signal distribution that can be expanded according to the particular requirements at any time

Conclusion
The SDR is a modular and flexible solution for signal distribution within different types of tester systems (HIL, ICT) working with different devices under test. It contains numerous signal processing cards for signal distribution to the devices under test. Those cards can be switching, multiplexer or matrix cards.

Each device under test can be individually powered and connected to test signals. In addition to that a matrix of 3W load resistors can be connected to the devices under test.

Because of the integrated relays being able to cope with high voltages and currents it is possible to test devices with a broad range of power consumptions.

The SDR is a modular system and therefore it is expandable by additional signal processing cards whenever this is required due to changing demands. It is also possible to develop and integrate customized special designs of signal processing cards.
