NOFFZ PORTFOLIO
NOFFZ Technologies Expands into
Drone Detection and Defense Applications
NOFFZ Technologies is broadening its strategic focus and strengthening its position in the defense and aerospace sector. In response to shifting global security requirements and increasing demand for counter‑UAS solutions, the company has introduced a new RF-based drone detection system while expanding its portfolio of test and automation solutions for defense and aviation applications.
Headquartered in Tönisvorst, Germany, NOFFZ has historically focused on the automotive industry, which has accounted for a significant share of its business over the past decades. However, recent volatility in the automotive market has accelerated the company’s efforts to further diversify and build resilience by addressing growing opportunities in long-term growth sectors such as defense and aerospace.
Strategic Shift with a Long-Term Perspective
“This is a deliberate strategic decision – not a short-term experiment,” explains Managing Director Tobias Noffz.
While automotive remains an important pillar of the business, NOFFZ aims to increase the share of defense and aerospace applications to more than 30 percent of its total business by the end of 2028.
To support this transition, the company plans targeted investments, particularly in marketing and sales, to increase visibility within the defense ecosystem and establish NOFFZ more firmly as a technology partner for security-critical applications.
Drone Detection as a New Portfolio Component
A key milestone in this expansion is the introduction of NORD (NOFFZ Observation and Radio Detection), an RF-based drone detection system presented earlier this year at the XPONENTIAL trade fair for autonomy and robotics. The system detects and tracks drones by analyzing their radio-frequency signals and is designed for applications such as:
- Protection of critical infrastructure
- Defense and security operations
- Civil and military aviation environments

NORD complements NOFFZ’s existing strengths in high-frequency technology, radar, connectivity, and signal processing—capabilities already well established through years of work in areas such as autonomous driving and wireless systems testing.
Leveraging Proven Test and Automation Expertise
Beyond drone detection, NOFFZ continues to develop and deliver customized test and automation systems for a wide range of industries, including defense and aerospace. These systems are used to validate electronic components and assemblies under demanding conditions, such as extreme temperatures, vibration, and environmental stress.
According to Co‑Managing Director Markus Solbach, many of the company’s core competencies—reliable processes, high quality standards, delivery reliability, and long product lifecycles—are directly transferable from automotive to defense and aerospace applications.
“Whether testing electronics for vehicles, household appliances, or armored systems, the fundamental requirements for precision, robustness, and traceability remain the same,” Solbach notes.
Building Resilience Through Diversification
Like many companies in the automotive supply chain, NOFFZ has faced challenging market conditions in recent years. Investment restraint across the industry has led the company to reassess how it positions itself for the future. Diversifying into defense and aerospace has emerged as a strategic response to these conditions, supported by sustained market growth and increasing technological demand in these sectors.
At the same time, NOFFZ emphasizes its commitment to responsible defense applications. The company sees its role as contributing essential technological building blocks—such as testing, validation, and detection systems—that help ensure security and reliability.
A Strong Base in Tönisvorst
The company’s modern headquarters in Tönisvorst, opened in 2023 following significant investment, provides the infrastructure required for this expansion. Enhanced security, confidentiality, and space now allow NOFFZ to meet the increased demands associated with defense-related projects.

NOFFZ Campus
Located near established defense and technology companies, the site offers ideal conditions for collaboration and innovation. With a broader portfolio and a clear strategic direction, NOFFZ Technologies is positioning itself for sustainable growth across multiple industries.
