RF Switching with Integrated Antenna Bias Supply and Antenna Detection for Automotive Testing Applications

As the RF routing core of the NOFFZ Universal Wireless Tester (UWT), the UMX product family combines non-reflective RF switching technology with integrated DC frontend capabilities. Featuring integrated antenna bias supply, antenna detection, and DC load simulation, it enables efficient signal routing and reliable validation of modern vehicle communication systems across a frequency range from 100 MHz to 12 GHz.

Flexible RF Switching for Production and Validation Testing

The UMX-SP8T-R / UMX-SP16T-R enables reliable routing of multiple DUT RF ports to shared measurement instruments, making it ideal for scalable production and validation environments.

All RF ports are non-reflective and matched to 50 ohms, ensuring stable and repeatable measurement conditions—even when ports are not actively routed.

The extended broadband frequency range up to 12 GHz also enables testing of Ultra Wide Band (UWB) applications as well as other next-generation wireless technologies.

Universal RF Switch for Multi-Standard Testing

The UMX-SP8T-R / UMX-SP16T-R is designed to support a wide range of modern communication standards within a single, flexible test setup. With its broad frequency coverage from 100 MHz to 12 GHz, the system enables reliable testing across broadcast technologies such as FM and DAB, cellular standards including GSM, UMTS, LTE and 5G, as well as wireless protocols like Wi-Fi, UWB and WiMAX. In addition, it supports automotive-specific applications such as KeylessGo, making it a future-proof solution for diverse RF test requirements in both development and production environments.

Integrated DC Test Capabilities

The UMX integrates advanced DC test and simulation functions directly into the RF switching architecture. Each DUT channel supports multiple DC states, allowing simulation of open circuits, load conditions and short scenarios. Configurable loads and the ability to simulate VBAT conditions enable comprehensive electrical validation alongside RF testing, reducing the need for additional hardware.

Intuitive Device Control and Diagnostics

The UMX platform supports SCPI-based remote control for seamless integration into automated test systems.

In addition, an integrated web-based Soft Front Panel provides intuitive access to device configuration, RF routing, DC load simulation, measurement functions, and diagnostic information in real time.

Built-in Measurement for Reliable Validation

With integrated voltage and current measurement on each DUT channel, the system enables real-time monitoring of electrical behavior during testing. Two measurement modes allow analysis of current flow both from the DUT into the system and from the system into the DUT, for example to simulate battery conditions.

Designed for Scalable Test Systems

The UMX is built for industrial environments with a robust aluminum housing and compact 19” rack design. Multiple modules can be easily stacked, enabling scalable and space-efficient test setups for both production lines and laboratory environments.

The UMX Product Family

The UMX product family provides flexible RF switching solutions for a wide range of wireless test applications. Depending on the required frequency range, port count, and routing complexity, users can choose from several system configurations.

The product series includes the UMX-8X32-R Universal Switch Matrix, a 32-port RF switching platform, the UMX-8SPDT-R Universal Switch Matrix Extender, which enables the interconnection of two UMX-8X32-R systems in a single test configuration, and the latest UMX-SP8T-R and UMX-SP16T-R Universal Switch Matrix Lite models with 8 and 16 ports respectively.

While the UMX-8X32-R and UMX-8SPDT-R have proven their reliability in demanding test environments for more than five years, the UMX-SP8T-R and UMX-SP16T-R represent the newest generation of the platform. The different models offer varying frequency ranges and signal routing capabilities, allowing users to select the optimal solution for their specific test requirements.
