Kontron relies on NOFFZ for automated testing
of its 5G communication modules
Technology partnership strengthens the series production of 5G communication modules “Made in Germany” through automated testing and quality assurance.
Düsseldorf / Tönisvorst, 29 October 2026 – Kontron, a global leader in IoT and Embedded Computing Technology (ECT), develops and manufactures 5G communication modules “Made in Germany”. For automated testing and quality assurance in series production, Kontron is working with NOFFZ Technologies as part of a technology partnership. From November 10 to 13, both companies will showcase their solutions at electronica 2026 in Munich.
Kontron is the only provider worldwide to develop 5G communication modules in Europe and manufacture them in Germany. The modules are developed in Germany, with series production handled by the Kontron Automotive organization, which has more than 30 years of experience in manufacturing electronic assemblies for the automotive industry and industrial applications. At its Düsseldorf site, the company produces 5G Automotive Network Access Devices (NADs) and 5G Industrial M.2 communication modules. With NOFFZ, the partnership also brings test engineering expertise from North Rhine-Westphalia into the equation. As a global specialist in test and automation solutions, NOFFZ contributes its many years of experience to the collaboration.
Headquartered in Tönisvorst near Düsseldorf, the company provides expertise in automated test systems and RF applications. The collaboration between the two companies demonstrates how the entire value chain, from development and manufacturing to testing, can be covered within Germany and Europe.
As complexity and production volumes increase, so do the requirements for quality assurance and traceability. Before delivery, each module undergoes extensive RF and functional testing, which can be time-consuming. To enable cost-effective production even at high volumes, Kontron and NOFFZ rely on highly parallelized test processes and robotics-based automation. Multiple devices under test are tested simultaneously, enabling short cycle times.
Automated quality inspection and integrated laser marking document the results for each individual module, ensuring complete traceability. The manufacturing and test concepts are also scalable for future communication modules
Applications in connected vehicles and the Industrial IoT
Kontron’s 5G NADs provide the communication interface in connected vehicles for over-the-air software updates, remote diagnostics, eCall functionality and future V2X applications. The Industrial M.2 modules are used in industrial IoT solutions. For both areas, European manufacturing and resilient supply chains are becoming increasingly important, particularly for critical communication technologies.
Development, manufacturing and testing from a single source
“With our 5G modules developed and manufactured in Germany, we provide the only European offering for critical automotive infrastructure,” says Christoph Caselitz, Executive Vice President Automotive at Kontron. “By collaborating with NOFFZ, we are complementing our development and manufacturing expertise with automated test solutions, enabling us to reliably ensure quality and traceability even at high production volumes.”
“Complex communication modules place high demands on automated testing. Parallelization and automation enable short cycle times, support a wide range of product variants and ensure complete traceability,” says Markus Solbach, Managing Partner at NOFFZ Technologies. “Together with Kontron, we are demonstrating that Europe can cover the entire 5G value chain, from development through to series production.”
Kontron and NOFFZ at electronica 2026
At electronica 2026, both companies will provide insights into the latest developments in 5G communication modules. Additional topics will include RF technology, antenna solutions, Non-Terrestrial Networks (NTN) and satellite communications, as well as manufacturing technologies and automated test systems.
Kontron will also showcase its Electronics portfolio at electronica, highlighting its global development and manufacturing capabilities across Europe, North America and Asia.
Kontron will be exhibiting from November 10 to 13, 2026, in Hall A1, Booth 449. NOFFZ will showcase its solutions in Hall A4, Booth 418. Visitors can experience the NOFFZ UTP 9090 system developed for Kontron via VR and talk to our experts about innovative RF adaptations and next-generation RF technologies.
